New year update – piling in the month of January
Updated: 16 December 2022
In the new year, MSBG will begin a further, short phase of essential piling work on site.
The piling is scheduled to start on or around Tuesday 3rd January and is expected to be completed by the end of January. As before, piling work will only take place within permitted hours (7.30am to 6pm, Monday to Friday and 8am to 1.30pm on Saturdays).
This piling work is within the parameters of the project’s existing planning permission, however, we always do our best to minimise noise wherever possible. In addition, MSBG will monitor compliance with noise limits throughout with the use of environmental noise measurement equipment at various locations in nearby residential areas.
MSBG apologises for any disturbance the piling works may cause. This work is necessary for the construction process and we ask you to bear with us during this further period of piling works. If you need to contact us at any time, please email info@protoserf.com

MSBG will shortly begin a further phase of essential piling work on the Protos Energy Recovery Facility site.
The piling is scheduled to start on or around Monday 5th September and is expected to take no more than two weeks to complete. As before, piling work will only take place within permitted hours (7.30am to 6pm, Monday to Friday and 8am to 1.30pm on Saturdays).

Short period of further piling on site
Updated: 26 July 2022
Last week, around 30 additional piles were installed on site to accommodate small design changes to the tipping hall ramps for the Protos Energy Recovery Facility.
As before, this piling work took place between the permitted hours (7.30am to 6pm, Monday to Friday and 8am to 1.30pm on Saturdays) and noise levels remained well below prescribed limits.
Due to ongoing design work for some smaller aspects of the construction project, there remains a possibility that MSBG may need to carry out further localised piling work in the future. Occasional piling works of this kind are within the parameters of the project’s existing planning permission, however, we will always do our best to minimise any disturbance and we will continue to provide updates via the Protos Community Forum and this website.
MSBG apologises for the short notice, which was due to the limited availability of the piling rig, and for any disturbance caused.
Launch of Local Liaison Committee
Updated: 30 June 2022
We are seeking local representatives to join a liaison committee for the ongoing construction project.
The Local Liaison Committee will gather feedback and opinions from local residents and provide information to the community during the current construction phase and subsequent commissioning phase of the project. It will meet on a regular basis with the aim of ensuring the project proceeds with minimal impact and disruption to the local community.
Places on the committee are limited and we want to make sure that all areas of interest are represented. To request an application form and further details, please email info@protoserf.com.
The deadline for applications is Friday 29th July and the first meeting will take place shortly afterwards.

Piling work to lay deep foundations for the Protos ERF and on the wider Protos site has now finished.
We would like to thank local residents for their patience during the extended piling programme. We know at times this work has been audible in the local area and we do sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused.
Piling update
Updated: 11 January 2022
The need for a number of additional piles has been identified from further detailed design works. Unfortunately, this means that we have had to restart piling work on site after the Christmas holidays. We expect the additional piling works to be completed by the end of February 2022.
We are very sorry for any inconvenience caused and will continue to do what we can to minimise any disturbance to our neighbours. If you need to contact us at any time, please email info@protoserf.com.

Piling update

Construction on site is progressing well and we are reaching the final stages of piling. We will continue to take measures to minimise any disturbance but if you need to contact us at any time, please email info@protoserf.com.
We would like to thank local residents for their patience during this piling programme and we sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused.

Piling work starts on site
Updated: 25 May 2021
We recently started piling work to lay deep foundations. Unfortunately, piling is typically noisier than other types of construction and, depending on weather conditions, you may be able to hear it during the day.
In order to complete this work as quickly as possible, whilst also complying with our planning conditions, piling works will only take place from 7.30am to 6pm, Monday to Friday and 8am to 1.30pm on Saturdays. At present, we anticipate that piling work will be completed in November this year. Subject to agreement with the local authority, other less noisy works may be undertaken outside the above times.
We are monitoring noise levels at various locations in the neighbourhood to ensure that we stay below the levels stipulated in the planning permission for the project. We will continue to do this, and where possible also make use of the quietest possible piling techniques and noise reduction measures available.
We sincerely apologise for any disturbance the piling may cause. This work is a necessary and unavoidable stage of the construction process and we hope you will bear with us.
If you need to contact us at any time, please email info@protoserf.com.
Construction set to start at Protos ERF
Updated: December 1, 2020
The Protos Energy Recovery Facility has achieved financial close and will move into construction this month.
The facility will process up to 400,000 tonnes of non-recyclable waste, further enabling the UK to achieve national self-sufficiency in managing waste and compliance with landfill diversion targets.
The project is expected to provide significant economic opportunities to the local and regional area, both during its three-year construction phase and upon its completion.
